Gould's Turkey Capture for Translocation
4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, & 13th of February 2013

We caught 9 turkeys today (13 Feb). We gambled and waited for the toms to come in. Unfortunately, once they showed up it was a cluster cuss to get them to group up. We ended up with 7 jakes, young tom and hen. After discussing things over, we decided to put these with the other 15 from last  week (5 Feb) at Tuley Spring.

With that, our totals are 43 turkeys captured this year.
                - 2 hens were released back in O'Donnell Canyon with GPS packs and blue wing tags (4 Feb)
                - 17 released in Happy Valley (2 jakes and 15 hens) with Pink wing tags.  Three with VHF packs (4 Feb)
                - 24 released in Aravipa Canyon (8 toms and jakes:16 hens) with white wing tags.  Four with VHF packs (5 Feb)

-Five total days of trapping (19 (4 Feb), 15 (5 Feb), 0 (6 Feb), 0 (7 Feb), 9 (13 Feb) birds captured in that order.

After talking to Frank a little more, there was a human disturbance on the Babocomari  (6-7 Feb) that I think was just enough to make the hens move elsewhere. Frank said that in late December, there were 40 plus birds down in that bottom. I feel that it would be a viable spot to trap in the future still.

We put eyes on the two hens with GPS packs this morning. Alive, healthy, and they were NOT recaptured today.

Thanks for coming out and helping.
Matt
