Huachuca Gould’s Chapter  ~ Supports the
BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
Cochise District Fall Camporee
Hereford Quarry ~ Cochise County, Arizona
October 27th, 2018

What:  The Huachuca Gould’s Chapter recently participated in the Boy Scout’s Fall Camporee sponsored by the Cochise District

When:  October 27th, 2018

Where:  Cochise County Quarry located about located about 2 miles east of the Hereford, Arizona Post Office.  The elevation was 4625 feet.

General Information:  The Cochise District of the Boy Scouts of America held its Fall Camporee over the October 27th weekend at the Cochise County Quarry in Hereford, Arizona.  This 3-day event offered 90 attending Scouts and another 10 adults from 7 troops learning experiences in marksmanship, mountain biking, amateur radio transmission, and Buffalo Soldier life.  The Huachuca Gould’s offered training in safe firearms use and live fire with the Turkey Federation inflatable BB gun range on October 27th.
The weather proved to be ideal on Saturday, the 27th.  While the very early morning temperatures were in the high 40s, they quickly rose to almost 70˚ F by the start of activities at 0830.  By early afternoon, it was a comfortable 78˚ F.  And just as pleasing were the only light breezes.

Huachuca Gould’s Chapter members participating in the event were John Millican, Dave Kemnitz, Dave Winiesdorffer, Randy Keiller, and Tom Deecken.

This Cochise District Camporee is one of many Boy Scout activities supported by the Huachuca Gould’s over the last 20 years.  Those activities include 5 Eagle Scout and Cub Scout projects that have improved water availability for Gould’s Turkey and other wildlife in the Huachuca Mountains of southeastern Arizona.

During those 20 years, Steve and Mary Kay Ponder have played very key roles in the Scouts’ work with the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter.  They have been great supporters of the Chapter’s community events during that time as well.  Thank you Steve and Mary Kay!
