20th Annual Hunting Heritage Banquet (Story and Photos)
Sierra Vista, Cochise County, Arizona
August 4th, 2018

What:  The Huachuca Gould’s Chapter 20th Annual Hunting Heritage Banquet
When:  August 4th, 2018
Where:  Knights of Columbus, Sierra Vista, Cochise County, Arizona
General Information:  Reaching a milestone this year, the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation hosted its 20th Annual Hunting Heritage Banquet.
The Banquet is an important fund-raising event that supports Chapter community-based activities held throughout the year.  These activities include JAKES Day, Family Get Outdoors, Turkey Hunters Care, Women-in-the-Outdoors, College Scholarship, and habitat improvement projects.
This year, 170 attended including 23 JAKES.  Five corporate Tables were reserved as well.
An assortment of guns, camping equipment, excursions, fishing tackle, wildlife prints, and even a trolling motor, gun safe, and generator were offered in games, auctions, and raffles.  Special raffles were held for the ladies, JAKES, and Banquet Underwriters.  JAKES showed their turkey calling skills to the delight of the Banquet attendees, also.  The Commissioners’ State-wide Turkey Tag winner was announced as well.
Several individuals were recognized at the Banquet.  They were Veterans and First Responders, Stephen Ponder (State Scholarship Winner), John Millican (Ultimate Wildlife Conservationist Award), Brittany Oleson (Arizona Game and Fish Department Wildlife Officer of the Year), Rene and Inge Dube (Huachuca Gould’s Chapter Service Recognition Award), and Joe and Teresa Heiser of JT’s Archery (Huachuca Gould’s Chapter Coin for Long-time Contributions and Support).
Festivities started with the Gobblin’ Hour for sipping, socializing, and tale swapping.  Then, Boy Scout Troop 445 presented the colors and led the Pledge of Allegiance.  Auctioneer Bruce Tingle followed with an invocation before a delicious dinner of turkey with fixings and apple and pumpkin pie.  Finishing out the Banquet were the JAKES turkey calling contest, live and silent auctions, and several raffles.
Thanks are due to the almost 30 volunteers from the Huachuca Gould’s and Arizona State Chapters for their efforts in hosting the Banquet.  Their work started several months earlier with fund raising and planning.  Deserving special recognition for assistance at the Banquet are Justin Watts (NWTF Regional Director), Auctioneer Bruce Tingle, and Julie Petersen of Bear Paw Armory (FFL Dealer).
