National Get Outdoors Day
Parker Canyon Lake ~ Cochise County, Arizona
June 8th, 2019
What: The Huachuca Gould’s Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation participated in National Get Outdoors Day with other local, public service groups
When: June 8th, 2019
Where: Parker Canyon Lake, Cochise County, Arizona
General Information: For another year, the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter celebrated National Get Outdoors Day with other service organizations in the area. This event was sponsored by the Coronado National Forest, Sierra Vista Ranger District and held at Parker Canyon Lake.
The event encourages families to enjoy the great outdoors in their own “neighborhood”. A variety of groups gave demonstrations and offered information for their representative interests. Other exhibitors included Huachuca Area Herpetological Association; Huachuca Mineral and Gem Club, Sit Means Sit Dog Training, Coronado National Forest, Arizona State Parks, Department of Homeland Security, Fort Huachuca Cultural Resources, National Park Service, Southern Arizona Hang Gliders Association, and Arizona Game and Fish Department.
The Huachuca Gould’s Chapter set up an information booth and inflatable BB gun range. On the range, shooting skills and gun safety were taught. Nearby, Chapter members fielded questions on purpose and activities of the organization. The up-coming Annual Hunters Heritage Banquet and JAKES Day were highlighted, also.
The weather was very mild for a mid-June day in southeastern Arizona. The temperature at 8:15 AM was 73˚ with mostly clear skies and very slight winds. At 1:00 PM, the temperature had only reached 80˚ F. A continuing light breeze off the lake made conditions even more pleasant.
By early afternoon, National Get Outdoors Day concluded. Almost 100 shooters completed their safe firearms training. It was another fun and successful day of public-oriented service and spreading the word about the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter.
Dave Kemnitz organized the Chapter’s participation in the event. Helping him were Chapter members Tom Fuller, Dave Winiesdorffer, Randy Keiller, Jason Warne, Tim Warne, and Tom Deecken. Thanks Dave for the grilled burgers!
