2019 YOUTH QUAIL HUNT

YOUTH QUAIL HUNT
Southern Arizona Quail Forever
Las Cienegas National Conservation Area
Sonoita, Santa Cruz County, Arizona
March 2nd, 2019

What:  The Huachuca Gould’s Chapter recently participated in a Quail Youth Hunt sponsored by the Southern Arizona Chapter of Quail Forever
     When:  March 2nd, 2019
Where:  Las Cienegas National Conservation Area near Sonoita, Arizona.  The elevation was 4650 feet.
General Information:  The Southern Arizona Chapter of Quail Forever held its annual Youth Quail Hunt on March 2nd, 2019 in the Sonoita Grasslands of Santa Cruz County, Arizona.  Interested families camped on-site the night before.
Saturday morning started rather cool with a temperature of 39˚ F at 7:15 AM.  By early afternoon, it was a pleasant, mostly sunny 71˚ F accompanied by a brisk breeze.
Twenty youths registered for the event with half of those hunting over dogs.  Total attendance was about 50, not including the many volunteers.
This annual event offered participants hands-on field experience in shooting, archery, fly fishing, wildlife identification, and orienteering followed by hunting over bird dogs.  Post-hunt game preparation was demonstrated, also.  These skills were taught at rotating stations adjacent to base camp.  Safety was the number one priority at all times.
Southern Arizona Quail Forever provided tasty breakfasts and lunches on event day as well.
Cooperating organizations, businesses, and individuals were:
