Huachuca Gould’s Cleans Up Coronado Drive in Sierra Vista!
Adopt-A-Highway
November 13th, 2021
Seven volunteers from the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter trolled Coronado Drive in Sierra Vista for trash and debris. The date was November 13th, 2021. This is the 11th year of Huachuca Gould’s participation in the City’s Adopt-A-Highway program.
The Chapter’s assigned area is an .8 of a mile portion of Coronado Drive that runs in front of the Sierra Vista City Hall and Police Department Headquarters. Signs in blue with white lettering stand at both ends of the street segment and recognize the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter and the National Wild Turkey Federation for this public service. This clean-up occurs twice a year.
After an 8:00 AM briefing in front of City Hall, the volunteers literally scattered out north and south to cover both sides of the street and all adjacent storm drainages. The weather cooperated except for the wind. It really was a wind by southeastern Arizona standards with gusts over 30 mph. Whatever did not get picked up is probably in the next county by now. Work was completed in a little over 2 hours.
Eight or so 30-gallon trash were filled. Other debris collected included a bed mattress, a rubber golf ball, and smashed car trim and lights. The bags and loose debris will be picked up by the City and hauled to the local land fill.
Wayne Kaiser and John Millican organized the volunteers and coordinated the project with personnel from the City of Sierra Vista. Assisting John in the clean-up were Tim Warne, Jason Warne, Joey Fuller, Tom Fuller, and Tom Deecken.
The next clean-up will be scheduled for the spring of 2022. Check the Chapter’s website in late October and early November for more information.
