Subject: Scholarship Update
The HGC, 2022 Scholarship winner was picked by our scholarship committee made up of Wayne Kaiser, David Kemnitz, David Wienesdorffer and Tom Deecken. There were 3 very qualified candidates to pick from. After careful and difficult review, Reya Adkins from Benson was picked as our local winner.
A total of 4 local chapter winners were submitted to National and to the AZ State Chapter scholarship committee, made up of Tim Denny, Tim Fletcher and John Millican. The committee met via zoom on Sunday evening after prior review of the 4 local scholarship applications. As with our local committee, the State committee decided on the top 2 choices and after an hour of discussion and careful deliberation a winner was finally decided upon. The entire committee wished that AZ could pick 2 winners since the top 2 choices were so outstanding that it was extremely difficult in separating them. Each and every facet of the Scholarship eligibility requirements for each application was discussed and dissected numerous times. In the end, we all felt that either candidate would be an exceptional representative of Arizona and would have an excellent chance at receiving the National scholarship.
In the end, Reya Adkins was selected as the 2022 Arizona State Scholarship winner. Her name will be submitted to National by State President, Roy Crain.
I will make contact with Reya and her parents with the great accomplishment and inviting them to attend our 2022 Banquet.
As a side note, Mingus Mountain did not receive a scholarship application this year. Since HGC received 3 applications, the 2 that were not selected by our committee were submitted to Mingus Mountain for consideration. Genavieve Eberhardt was selected as their winner with a $500 scholarship awarded. Mingus Mountain president Tim Denny will be making contact with Genavieve as well as inviting her and her parents to attend the HGC Banquet in August so that she can be presented with the Mingus Mountain Scholarship.
Lastly, I want to give a huge thank you to Joan Vasey for her efforts in developing PSAs that were submitted to various media outlets, High School counselors, Home Schoolers and many other institutions where High School seniors are currently enrolled. Working through the National process was very difficult and resulted in Joan working many hours in developing guidelines due to changes to the State and local scholarship guidelines needing to be made. Joan’s flexibility and ability to make changes, and to get those changes out in a timely manner resulted in HGC receiving 3 very qualified candidates. Joan continues to be dedicated to the Scholarship process and works many hours to make this as seamless as possible for students. Thank You Joan.
If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with me.
Thanks to all that made this years’ scholarship a huge success.
