Southern Arizona Quail Forever Family Day

Participates in Family Day Event
Las Cienegas National Conservation Area
March 4th, 2023
The Southern Arizona Chapter of Quail Forever (SAQF) held its Family Day on March 4th, 2023, in the Sonoita Grasslands of Santa Cruz County, Arizona. Interested families and volunteers camped on-site the night before, with a volunteer dinner served by SAQF.
There were over 110 participants for the event. Seventy-five volunteers made it possible.
This annual event offered participants hands-on field experience in shooting, archery, fly fishing, bird dog handling, quail hunting tips and ethics, wildlife identification, falconry, animal husbandry, gps navigation, and K9 demonstration by the Pima County Sheriff Office. These skills were taught at rotating stations adjacent to base camp. Safety was always the number one priority.
Southern Arizona Quail Forever provided tasty breakfasts and lunches on event day as well.

Huachuca Gould’s Chapter volunteers organized and staffed the BB Gun Range and one of two Trap Stations. The Chapter provided canopies, mess tents, tables, chairs, coolers, and a clay pigeon thrower as well.
Volunteers from the Chapter helping with the event included John Millican, Rob Bridges, John Rose, Dave Kemnitz, Dave Winiesdorffer, Steve Ponder, Scott Vasey, Wayne Kaiser, and Tom Deecken.
