Huachuca Gould’s Chapter Participates in Family Day Event 2024 (Story & Photos)

Huachuca Gould’s Chapter Participates in Family Day Event 2024  Family Day hosted by Southern Arizona Quail Forever was held on March 2nd , 2024, in the Sonoita Grasslands of Santa Cruz County, Arizona. Once again, the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter supported activities with a bb gun range, clay pigeon shooting, and camp amenities.

This annual event offered youth teaching stations for shooting, archery, fly fishing, bird dog handling, quail hunting tips and ethics, wildlife identification, falconry, animal husbandry, drone navigation, and K9 demonstration. Safety was always the number one priority. Southern Arizona Quail Forever provided tasty breakfasts and lunches on event day for the 100-plus participants and support volunteers as well.

Other cooperating organizations included the Green Valley Hunting and Fishing Club; Sky Island Falconry; Be Outdoors Arizona; Arizona State Highway Patrol, Canine Unit; Darling Geometrics; and Forever Home Donkey Rescue and Sanctuary.
Volunteers from the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter helping with the event were John Millican, Rob Bridges, John Rose, Dave Kemnitz and grandson, Steve Ponder, Christa Manuska, Carole Peters, Wayne Kaiser, and Tom Deecken.

For more information about the event host, Southern Arizona Quail Forever, refer to their Chapter’s web site, http://www.saquailforever.com.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM Overview: Have you ever wanted to try hunting, or harvest your own food? The Outdoor Skills Network is your one-stop resource for events offered by the Arizona Game and Fish Department and a network of partners who conduct hands-on events to teach you the basics about hunting, fishing, trapping, safety, wildlife, and other outdoor skills.
Interested, but not ready to go hunting yet? Don't worry, we still want you to come on out and see what the outdoor experience and wildlife conservation is all about. Hunting is just one portion of these events. Many of these camps are also open to people wishing to learn more about wildlife biology, ecology and their habitats; target shooting; archery; wildlife viewing; camping; social gatherings and more. If you are interested, just contact the camp host and let them know. We are always seeking out mentors and volunteers as well.

Did you know?
  • There are more than 800 species in the state of Arizona - more than any other inland state.
  • Arizona Game and Fish Department, charged with the management of the state's wildlife, receives no state tax revenue. It is through a user-pay public-benefit model that funds wildlife management and conservation in Arizona and much of the United States.
