New Drinker Installed at Collins Canyon Water Development
On June 27th, 2025, Wayne Kaiser, Dave Kemnitz, and John Millican of the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation replaced a deteriorating drinker box at the Collins Canyon wildlife development. Water at the site was not available because of the leaky drinker. The development is located about 1¼ miles above Parker Canyon Lake and frequented by Gould’s Turkey, Black Bear, Whitetail Deer, and other wildlife.
The original drinker, 2,000-gallon storage tank and wildlife friendly fence were installed in 2010. Water for the system is collected by an inverted umbrella on the top of the tank with water gravity fed to a wildlife drinker.
A small quantity of water was added to the drinker and storage tank for use until the anticipated rainy season starts in July.
The project was coordinated with the Sierra Vista Ranger District of the Coronado National Forest. The Huachuca Gould’s Chapter’s holds a special use permit for maintenance of several wildlife improvements on the National Forest.
