2025 Family Day
Southern Arizona Quail Forever Hosts Family Day 2025
This family-oriented outdoor event was held on March 1st, 2025, in the Sonoita Grasslands of Santa Cruz County, Arizona. The Huachuca Gould’s Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation offered bb gun and clay pigeon ranges along with camp amenities.
A variety of conservation organizations staffed learning stations that focused on youth shooting, archery, sports fishing, bird dog handling, quail hunting tips and ethics, wildlife identification, falconry, animal husbandry, and drone navigation. The Pima County Sheriff presented a K-9 demonstration, also. Safety was always the number one priority.
There were 160-plus participants supported by 50 volunteers at Family Day. Around 90 shooters of all ages tested their target skills at the Chapter’s BB Gun Range, along with 45 shooters participating in the clay pigeon range.
Southern Arizona Quail Forever provided tasty breakfasts and lunches on event day as well.
Other cooperating organizations included the Green Valley Hunting and Fishing Club, Sky Island Falconry, Be Outdoors Arizona, San Pedro Flycasters, Darling Geometrics, Mustang 4-H, Desert Destroyers Archery, and Tucson Bird Alliance.
Volunteers from the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter helping with the event were John Millican, Jessica Vannoy, John Rose, Dave Kemnitz and grandson, Steve Ponder, Steve Tritz, Wayne Kaiser, and Tom Deecken.
