WITO – Women’s Beginner Turkey Hunting Skills Camp

The Huachuca Gould’s Chapter hosted a Women in the Outdoors Beginner Turkey Hunting Skills Camp on the Babacomari Ranch on April 10-12, 2026.  A total of 15 ladies participated in this camp.  The 2-day event was focused at providing knowledge to feel confident in identifying turkey habitat, understand behavior and successfully hunt turkeys.  Field instruction included understanding patterning shotgun, identification of turkey sign, operation of turkey calls, listening to turkeys on roost and mock hunting scenarios.  All participants received a free box call purchased by HGC.

One of the many highlights of the camp was to observe turkeys in the early morning hours on roost, listen to them vocalize and watch them pitch out of Cottonwoods.  Then one of the gobblers walked into 50 yards and gobbled at the group of participants.  What a thrill!

Meals throughout the weekend event were provided by HGC.  A big thanks goes to the Babacomari Ranch, AZ Game and Fish, volunteers, and the Arizona State Turkey Chapter for providing funding.
