QUAIL FEST
Southern Arizona Quail Forever
Santa Cruz County Fairground
Sonoita, Arizona
December 9th, 2018

What:  The Huachuca Gould’s Chapter recently participated in Quail Fest sponsored by the Southern Arizona Chapter of Quail Forever
    When:  December 9th, 2018
Where:  Santa Cruz County Fairground located in Sonoita, Arizona.  The elevation was 4880 feet.
General Information:  The Southern Arizona Chapter of Quail Forever held its annual Quail Fest on December 9th, 2018 in Sonoita, Arizona.  This annual event allowed local conservation  organizations and businesses to interact with around 200 attendees.
The setting in the heart of the Sonoita Grassland boarded by the Santa Rita and Whetstone Mountains and Canelo Hills was very appropriate.  Gambels, Scaled, and Mearns Quail along with several other game species are found nearby in the varied habitats.
The following groups set up information and demonstration tables in the Pioneer Hall:
Cienega Watershed Partnership ~  Arizona Revegetation and Monitoring

Sonoran Desert Feathers Taxidermy  ~  Arizona Wildlife Federation
Arizona Game and Fish  ~  Coronado Outdoors
Quail Forever, Southern Arizona Chapter  ~  Tucson Audubon Society
Arizona Antelope Foundation  ~  Q5 Outdoors Products
North American Versatile Hunting Dog  ~  Association, Grand Canyon Chapter
National Wild Turkey Federation, Huachuca Gould's Chapter
Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge  ~  Bureau of Land Management
Back Country Hunter and Anglers
Huachuca Gould’s Chapter members participating in the event were John Millican, Bruce and Karon Nunez, Dave Winiesdorffer, and Tom Deecken.
Locally, Quail Forever has been very active in research and habitat projects and retaining access to public lands, all activities supported by the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter.   The Chapter will be cooperating with Quail Forever in their upcoming Youth Hunt as well.  This event will be held on the nearby Las Cienegas National Conservation Area on March 2nd.  For more information, refer to Quail Forever’s web site, http://www.saquailforever.com/youth-hunt/, as it becomes available.
