Huachuca Gould’s Supports Quail Fest 2021

Sonoita, Arizona
December 5th, 2021
The Huachuca Gould’s Chapter participated in Quail Fest on December 5th, 2021, at the Santa Cruz County Fairground in Sonoita, Arizona. Quail Forever, Southern Arizona Chapter, sponsored the public event.

This annual event offered local conservation-oriented organizations and businesses opportunities to interact with outdoor enthusiasts.

The setting in the heart of the Sonoita Grassland boarded by the Santa Rita and Whetstone Mountains and Canelo Hills was very appropriate. Gambel’s, Scaled, and Mearns Quail along with several other game species are found nearby in the varied habitats.

The following groups set up information and demonstration tables in Pioneer Hall                                                    North American Versatile Hunting Dog ~~~  Be Outdoors Arizona

Quail Forever, Southern Arizona Chapter ~~~ Tucson Audubon Society
Back Country Hunter and Anglers ~~~ Huachuca Gould’s Chapter, National Wild Turkey Federation
Arizona Antelope Foundation ~~~ Sonoran Deserts Feather Taxidermy
                                                                      Quail Diet Study

At the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter table, information on turkey biology, organization activities and purpose, and personal interaction with attendees were available.

Chapter members participating in the event were John Millican, Wayne Kaiser, Dave Winiesdorffer, Dave Kemnitz, and Tom Deecken.

Locally, Quail Forever has been very active in research and habitat projects and retaining access to public lands, all activities supported by the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter. The Chapter will be cooperating with Southern Arizona Quail Forever in their upcoming Youth Hunt as well. This event will be held at the nearby Las Cienegas National Conservation Area on February 26th  of 2022. For more information, refer to Quail Forever’s web site, http://www.saquailforever.com/youth-hunt/, as it becomes available.
