Korn Ridge Drinker Maintenance
Korn Canyon, Canelo Hills
Santa Cruz County, Arizona
November 4th, 2019
Activity Description:
On November 4th, 2019 volunteers from the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation repaired the Korn Ridge Drinker development in the Canelo Hills.
The Korn Ridge Drinker is a cooperative effort between the National Forest livestock permittee, the Coronado National Forest, and the Huachuca Gould’s. Water for the development is supplied by a ¼ of a mile long pipe that taps into another water line for livestock. A metal drinker box is fed by an 1100-gallon storage tank at the end of the wildlife pipe line. A small area around the drinker and tank are fenced to exclude cattle.
A new float valve was installed on the storage tank, the drinker box was cleaned and tested, and the storage tank was partially filled .
The volunteers from the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter doing the repair work were John Millican, Tim Warne, Dave Kemnitz, Wayne Kaiser, and Tom Deecken.
This water development will be checked periodically throughout 2020 to ensure that water is available for wildlife.
