The Huachuca Gould’s Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation hosted its 24th Annual Hunting Heritage Banquet on August 5th, 2023. Celebrated as well with a special cake was the 50th anniversary of the National Wild Turkey Federation. The event was held at Knights of Columbus in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
The Banquet is an important fund-raising effort that supports Chapter community-based activities held throughout the year. These activities include JAKES Day, Family Get Outdoors, Turkey Hunters Care, Women-in-the-Outdoors, College Scholarship, and habitat improvement projects.
This year, just under 200 attended including 19 JAKES. Eighteen Corporate Tables were reserved as well.
An assortment of big and small items was available in the Live and Silent Auctions, various games, and several raffles. These items included guns, knives, camping equipment, a weekend excursion in Sedona, a 5-night stay in a luxury cabin at Greer in the heart of the White Mountains, fishing tackle, wildlife prints, and hunting equipment. Enthusiastic and sometimes dramatic bidding on the Turkey Federation 50th Anniversary 3-shotgun Commemorative Set was the highlight of the Live Auction. The Commissioners’ State-wide Turkey Tag winner was announced as well.
Festivities started with socializing, tale swapping, and perusing the auction and raffle items. Auctioneer Bruce Tingle followed with an invocation before a delicious dinner of turkey with fixings, salad, and an assortment of desserts was served.
Veterans, First Responders, and Front-line Workers were recognized for their service to our community and the nation. Maylee Thompson, scholarship winner in 2023 for both the local and Arizona state chapters of the Turkey Federation, was presented with a financial aid check of $3,000. Maylee’s family was in attendance, also.
The memory of Inge and Rene Dube was honored for their several decades of service with Huachuca Gould’s, especially in supporting youth events and habitat work.
Local dignitaries attended the Banquet as well. Present were Sierra Vista City Mayor Clea McCee II; Cochise County Sheriff Mark Daniels, and Sierra Vista Council Member Mark Rodriguez.

Throughout the year, our chapter hosts 12-16 events geared toward habitat improvement, family/ youth, and community. By attending our banquet, you will not only have a great time, but you will be helping to improve wildlife habitat and promote the outdoor way of life.
